(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) -- After more than four years in the planning and construction stages, ABF Freight System, Inc., moved into its new distribution center in Huber Heights, Ohio, on Monday, August 19. More than 750 people are employed at the facility.
The $14,000,000 center is one of the largest of its type in the nation with 330 freight-handling doors stretching along both sides of the more than 1,800-feet length of the building. The facility sits on more than 80-acres of which more than 43-acres are paved. The dock has more than 6.2 acres under roof and has two 1,700-foot draglines to facilitate the movement of freight. The draglines are capable of handling approximately 12-million pounds per day.
In addition to multi-floor space, the facility houses 49 individually climate-controlled road-driver sleeping rooms. Separate from the main building is a maintenance shop with 12 full drive-through service lanes for fueling and minor repair work. Each lane will accommodate a set of twin-trailers with tractor.
ABF Freight System, Inc. is the nation's fourth largest LTL motor carrier and has direct service to all 50 states and nine Canadian provinces through more than 340 terminals and single-bill service to Mexico and 161 other countries worldwide. Pauley Construction of Springfield, Ohio, built the facility.
