ABF Goes Wireless - Internet Tools Now Available Via Handheld Devices

(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) FORT SMITH, Ark., June 2 -- ABF Freight System, Inc.® introduces ABF Anywhere, providing real-time shipment status tracing information for the handheld Personal Data Assistant (PDA). Using their PDA, customers can access both current shipment status and ABF contact information from anywhere that a wireless link is available.

ABF's new Web clipping application for Palm VII(TM) users can be downloaded at www.abfs.com/Anywhere. The one-time download typically takes less than one minute and enables use within the Palm.Net service area. Access to the service for Windows CE devices will be available next week through the ABF Anywhere home page at www.ABFAnywhere.com.

Bob Davidson, ABF's Vice President-Marketing and Pricing, stated, "Through ABF Anywhere, logistics managers can now access shipment information while out on the warehouse floor. This tether-free service also keeps data at the fingertips of plant managers traveling between their facilities. Field personnel need no longer find a computer or even a telephone to retrieve an update on a critical shipment. Once again, ABF is breaking new ground in meeting customer needs. Our strength is in our flexibility, adapting transportation information technology to our customers' changing business environments."

A recent report by The Strategis Group projects U.S. wireless Internet users to grow to nearly 25 million in the next five years. In the near future, ABF plans to expand ABFAnywhere.com to include other PDA platforms and additional shipping tools. ABF offers a complete suite of Internet-based transportation tools, including customer-specific rate quotation, dynamic shipment rerouting, pickup requests and document retrieval at www.abfs.com.

ABF Freight System, Inc. is one of the nation's largest motor carriers and has direct service to all 50 states, nine Canadian provinces, Guam and Puerto Rico. In addition to the carrier's broad service to Mexico, ABF provides guaranteed expedited service for time-critical and time-definite shipments via its TimeKeeper® service. They also offer international service to more than 130 other countries through 230 ports. ABF is the largest subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS - ABFS).
