Background Data -

Since 1993, CIO magazine has honored companies for exemplary uses of information technology (IT) that add value to their operations. The prestigious Enterprise Value Award, which is announced each year in the magazine’s February 1st issue, has evolved from one that lauded impressive bottom-line returns from information system investments into one that celebrates the power of IT to fundamentally transform how business gets done.

CIO Enterprise Value Award nominees are subjected to a rigorous judging process. To be considered, IT systems must be active for at least two years and demonstrate benefits and return on investment (ROI) across the enterprise. Systems are judged on such criteria as strategic value, customer impact, financial return, operational efficiency and social impact.

There are nine industry winners, one for each of the following industries: financial services; government and nonprofits; health care; high tech, telecom and utilities; manufacturing; retail, wholesale and distribution; management services; transportation; and hospitality. The Grand CIO Enterprise Value Award winner will be selected from this group of winners and announced at Tuesday night’s ceremony, February 8, 2005.

CIO magazine (launched in 1987) is published by CXO Media, Inc., a subsidiary of International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading technology media, research and event company.

ABF has been the acknowledged leader in bringing e-commerce solutions to the transportation industry. In both business-to-business and business-to-consumer environments, from dot-com startups to traditional brick-and-mortar companies, ABF's e-commerce solutions are considered the very best in the shipping industry.

Since late 1995, ABF has maintained a program of rapid deployment of online applications under its online eCenter® project. Offering an array of productivity tools for its customers and B2B partners, the ABF eCenter now includes proactive shipment tracking, customer-specific rate quotations, detailed summary reports, dynamic routing of in-transit shipments, a wireless tracking solution and XML connectivity.

ABF’s exclusive eCenter applications focus on logistics management and include such features as the analysis of shipping trends via charts, graphs and historical reports, as well as shipment management functions through pool distribution and merge-in-transit applications.
