Transit times into and out of the Boston metropolitan area will be impacted by high security surrounding the Democratic National Convention, July 25th through July 31st. Likewise, the New York metropolitan area will be similarly affected during the Republican National Convention, August 29th through September 4th.

These are the first national political conventions since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has declared them to be National Special Security Events. Accordingly, a number of road and lane closures will have a major impact on traffic in these regions. All shipments also will be subject to random inspections by security officials.

These are the first National Special Security Events declared since 2002, when the designation was given to the Salt Lake City Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Economic Forum, and the State of the Union Address. The designation means the U.S. Secret Service assumes the lead role in ensuring safety and security.

As a result of this intense security, there can be no guaranteed delivery days or times for ABF TimeKeeper® service (including ABF Assured Service®) for Boston and New York during these National Special Security Events. Please plan your shipments accordingly.
