Transit times into and out of the New York metropolitan area will be impacted by high security surrounding the Republican National Convention, August 29th through September 4th.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has declared the convention a National Special Security Event. The designation means the U.S. Secret Service assumes the lead role in ensuring safety and security. Accordingly, a number of road and lane closures will have a major impact on traffic in these regions. All shipments will also be subject to random inspections by security officials.
