ABF FreightSM Driver Ralph Garcia Receives Mike Russell Trucking Image Award from ATA

  • Garcia has driven over 3.5 million accident-free miles during his 37-year career
  • He earned the White House Champion of Change title in 2011

FORT SMITH, Arkansas, November 6, 2015 — Ralph Garcia, a driver for ABF Freightsm, an ArcBest company (Nasdaq: ARCB), was honored with a Mike Russell Image Award during the American Trucking Associations' Management Conference & Exhibition in Philadelphia October 18.

“Ralph is an America’s Road Team Captain who in his 37-year career has driven more than 3.5 million accident-free miles and has won a national truck driving championship and 17 state titles, and that’s just a few of his accomplishments,” said ABF Freight President Tim Thorne. “He has also been a guest of the White House, where he was named a Champion of Change in 2011. We are extremely proud that he drives for ABF Freight.”

Garcia has been with ABF Freight for 23 years and is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. "As a professional driver, I have the privilege of being on our highways each day and delivering our goods to the country. Keeping our highways safe is my No. 1 priority, and being able to share my experience with the public and those in the trucking industry is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job,” Garcia said.

The Mike Russell Trucking Image Awards are named in honor of the late Mike Russell, former ATA vice president of public affairs.

“Every person working in the trucking industry has the responsibility to advocate on its behalf and demonstrate the safety-first mentality of the trucking industry to the public,” said ATA Second Vice Chairman Kevin Burch, president of Jet Express of Dayton, Ohio. “The awards we presented today celebrate a company, organization or individual who over the past year has gone above and beyond to establish positive awareness of the trucking industry.”

The American Trucking Associations, established in 1933, is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry.
