"Being a professional driver requires patience, courtesy, common sense, and a dedication to safety."

Two of Max Helman's favorite topics are safety and truck driving as a job. The Carlisle, Pennsylvania-domiciled road driver points out how his job differs from others in some aspects. His "shift" varies in time of day, and his tractor is his "office." However, he stresses it's a job like anyone else's, because he puts in a full day's work. It's a job where the quality approach is a must.

"Paying attention and using common courtesy are important factors in sharing the highway," says the Shippensburg, Pennsylvania native who has driven 17½ years without a chargeable accident. He has received numerous safety awards and membership in the company's Million Mile Club. He has actively participated in ABF Quality Improvement Process meetings. Max has also served on ABF's Road Team in 1994, 1996 and 1997.
