Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Dear Fellow Employee, During the week of November 1-7, 2009, ABF will celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week with the theme: “Turning Challenges into Opportunities.” Of the top 50 motor carriers in business prior to the deregulation of the trucking industry in 1980, ABF is the only surviving company still operating under the same name. What a great example of turning challenges into opportunities. For this legacy of success, I want to thank each of you for your contribution. Challenges are never ending. Consequently, so are opportunities, which has been particularly true the last 12 months. Some say the business recession of 2009 is the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It’s certainly been the most challenging year of my 40-year career with the company. However, in spite of this, opportunities abound, and if we continue working promptly, precisely, responsibly, and cooperatively, we’ll seize those opportunities, grow business and jobs, and prosper to provide employment for future generations of ABFers.
