ABF® maintains a weighing and research program at select hub and major city terminal operations. The purpose of the program is to verify the accuracy of weight, description, and densities of shipments tendered to ABF. This ensures that each shipment handled moves at the applicable rate.

ABF maintains a policy of lowering the weight or class when discovered to be too high. Consequently in 2007, ABF helped customers save $13,979,355 by reducing the revenue on 452,398 shipments with a tonnage of 79,640,439 pounds.

INDUSTRY STANDARDS
ABF's W&R Program is a member of the National Motor Common Carrier Weighing and Research Association.
ABF's W&R Program works in conjunction with the National Classification Committee to determine product classification.
ABF's W&R Program promotes the equity in the application of classification and rates, which eliminates the potential for discrimination and unfair competitive advantages.
Common motor carriers are required by law to provide the rate specified in the applicable tariff on shipments tendered to them for transportation.
CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE
ABF W&R provides education in proper classification, description, and shipping procedures.
ABF W&R provides understanding of the importance of information furnished to carriers on the bill of lading.
ABF W&R provides opinions of the proper description and classification of shipper products.
Shippers who know the proper weight and classification of their products are able to accurately project transportation costs and ensure a reasonable profit for their goods.
