Creating a Shipping Charges Formlet

          Shipment Affiliation & Location Information

  1. Select your affiliation with the shipment. If you are the party shipping the freight, select "Shipper". If you are a third party, select "Third Party". You may select any combination of the two selections. This is required to receive your specific pricing.
  2. Your options will change depending on the option(s) selected.  Notice, when shipper is selected, the links to the right of the information are “Change My Information”, “View My Locations”, and “Clear”.  Options for the Third Party are “Lookup My Contact”, “View All Contacts”, and “Clear”.
  3. All freight shipments will be "Prepaid".
  4. If you are the shipper, your contact and location information may be filled in for you. This option is set be selecting “Auto-Fill My Information”.  If this option is set, you may change your information by clicking on “Change My Information”.
  5. If you ship from multiple locations, you may click on “View My Locations” and choose the correct location.  You will be able to choose from the list of locations that you have provided to ABF.  Note:  if you need to add a location, please contact your local ABF sales representative.  You may do the same if you are the consignee and third party.
  6. You may also provide location by entering the company name, address, city, state, zip, and country for the shipper, consignee and third party. Remember, only the fields in red are required.
  7. Note that for city information, the city and state OR the zip may be entered - verification assistance will be given if needed.
  8. In the sections that you have not chosen affiliation, you have the option to “View All Contacts”.  This will give you a listing of all contacts that you have entered into My Contacts. Also, you may enter the first few letters of the contact’s name and click “Lookup My Contact” and the remaining information for that contact will be filled in for you. Note: You may also choose to have all parties that you ship with to be automatically loaded into your My Contacts database.
  9. If you are the shipper and want to take the shipment to the origin terminal rather than having it picked up, you may click “I will bring the shipment to the serving ABF origin terminal”.

          Shipment Specifics

  1. Descriptions are required for each product. You may also enter handling fees as either a percentage or as a dollar amount. Check "Shipper Load" if the shipper will be loading the freight. Enter the length, width, and height of the total shipment in feet, or enter the total cube for the shipment.  If you require assistance, you may use the provided “cube calculator”.
  2. If you have pricing based on package types and/or piece counts, you will need to enter the number and type of handling units for the shipment. For Example, if you are shipping 2 pallets with a total of 50 cartons you will enter 2 PLT, 50 CTN.
  3. Weight and class are required for each commodity.  This is the total weight of the commodity. For example, if you are shipping 2 pallets with a total of 50 cartons for a particular commodity, you would enter the total weight of the 2 pallets and the 50 cartons on each pallet.
  4. If you have pricing based on the NMFC (National Motor Freight Classification) number, you may need to enter the NMFC item and sub. If the NMFC number is not available, you may provide a description of the freight you are shipping. If you are unsure of what to enter as a description, you may get help by using the “Lookup Item” function.
  5. Be sure to check "Hazmat" if your shipment is hazardous.
  6. Click "+" to enter additional commodity lines. If you have more than one commodity line, you can click "Remove Item" to remove that particular commodity line.
  7. Check all additional service options that apply to your shipment (i.e. Ground Delivery or Arrival Notification).
  8. Click the "Save Entry & Generate Formlets" button to save your shipping charges entry.
  9. Upon a successful save, you will be directed to a summary page. The summary page allows you to download product formlets, edit this product entry, manage previous entries, create a new entry based on this one, or create a new entry from scratch.

Common Questions
What is a formlet?
This is a section of HTML generated by ABF for you to include in your online auction HTML page.  It contains all of the necessary HTML to show the ABF Shipping Calculator on your product page.  Simply include this HTML in your page wherever you wish to explain your shipping options.

Can I use my previous product entries?

Can I get a product formlet based on my specific pricing?
Yes. If you are experiencing problems getting your pricing applied contact your ABF Sales Representative or the ABF Help Desk at (479) 785-8900.

I've logged on and I'm still not getting my specific pricing when I do a product formlet. What do I do?
Contact your ABF Sales Representative or the ABF Help Desk at (479) 785-8900.

I'm getting an error message that says "Invalid Shipper city, state, and zip combination. Select from the list below or reenter." What do I do?
The information that you entered does not match up with our information for that particular city, state, and zip combination. A city list and/or zip list will appear below the origin/destination city and state. Select from the list(s) or re-enter your city information.

What if I do not know the zip code or the exact name of a city?
In all sections of the ABF Web site that require a location entry, you may provide a zip code or the city/state combination. If you do not know the zip code or the exact spelling of the city, simply enter the first few letters of the city and select the state. After you submit the form, you will be given a list of city/state combinations to select from that match your entry.
